It is important to protect the environment and the good news is that you can support this cause. On top of that, you can save thousands of rands just by switching to a solar water heating system.

What is a Solar Geyser?

A solar geyser is a system made up of a solar collector and a water storage tank. The purpose of a solar geyser is to heat the water directly by using solar energy from the sun.

Direct System Solar Geyser

These systems pump water into solar panels which is posteriorly heated and stored inside the geyser. This can be done by either using evacuated tubes or solar panels

Indirect System Solar Geyser

These ones use a type of anti-freeze used to heat the water by having it circulate through the solar panels by then letting the water flow directly into the geyser. Just like direct systems, they also work with evacuated tubes or solar panels

Advantage of a Solar Geyser System

  • A solar geyer will definitely help you reduce your water bill. It is estimated that one of them can help you save 90% in your water heating costs
  • Energy is renewable and free, they even work in cloudy days so you shouldn’t worry about not having hot water regardless of weather. You can avoid the use of fossil fuels, these are harmful for the environment
  • Other environmental factors you should consider are chemical by-products, gas, and smoke. The quality of water is not affected by the solar geyser system. Some homes may not have access to electricity like those located in remote areas, for this reason, solar geysers are the top choice for those. On top of that, even if you run out of electricity in your home, you will still have hot water you can enjoy if you own a solar geyser
  • They are highly durable, resistant to different types of strong and not so strong weather. The tubes it has can stand snowy and frosty environments as well as hail
  •  A significant part of a house’s electricity bill comes from electricity, mainly, water heating, especially in homes where more than one person lives which basically represents the most homes in the country. For this reason, purchasing a solar geyser will represent you with a positive ROI or return on investment several months after you buy it. Thus, a few years from now, the amount you would not have only saved money but you will be paying very little for water heating purposes for the rest of your life. It is an investment worth making.
  • Power plants not only contain mercury but are the main source of it. Also, they represent a large portion of toxic metals that can wreck the environment. These pose a threat to all water sources including oceans, rivers, and lakes among others. Also, human health can be compromised, especially those in vicinity areas or areas that are near a place where the air was polluted in the first place and even towns in their surroundings since this water travels a long way to reach even distant places. By using solar energy to heat their homes, people can take a step forward into saving the environment and society in this sense.

On overcast days the heat output of a Solar Geyser is reduced. Most makes of solar geysers do have a built in electric heater as well, but normally between 1 and 1 and a halve hours

Yes it is a very effective system, saving you money in the long run and a great investment!

They do yes, although they do not create as much hot water in the winter or can take longer to generate hot water

To an extend yes, Solar Thermal Water Heater Systems do not only work with direct sunlight but also with solar radiation, which is great news even for cloudy days
